AI tools like MagicSchool reduce teacher workload by generating varied assessments tailored to different levels. MagicSchool relies on several generative AI models, including OpenAI’s GPT-4o, Anthropic’s Claude, and Google’s Gemini. The platform currently uses a combination of these models to power its various tools, choosing the most suitable one for each task in order to deliver the best possible results in the education field.

It integrates more than 80 tools within a single interface, helping trainers and educators create diverse content such as exercises, lesson plans, assessments, and activity ideas. This content can be tailored to various learning levels, from nursery school to university, and can also be applied to professional training. The platform offers tracking and management tools for educators, as well as interactive features to enhance engagement in learning. Additionally, a pedagogical coach, a chatbot named Rania, is available to assist users.

The approach and content is US formated and doesn’t correspond to our western Europe standards and vocabulary.

While in Europe Magic School cannot be recommended for classroom use with its chatbot and various tracking and management tools, it can still help us to design assessments, different types of exercises, generate presentations, etc.

Non-specialised generative AI can provide an equivalent service, but Magic School allows us to:

  • generate activities that we might not necessarily have thought of,
  • be guided in obtaining a result and thus save time if we are not very experienced in writing prompts.

Example of implementation

On MagicSchool, several tools can be used to create assessments, some of them accessible in the category Feedback & Asessment. If some are for the US environment, several can be used in European context, as for example the Multiple choice Quiz / Assessment, the Rubric generator or the Multi-Step Assignment. The Worksheet Generator that is not included in that category can also be used to generate assessments. We will show the example of the Worksheet Generator as, for the same objective and with a unique prompt, it provides exercises in different formats: fill in the blank, multiple choice questions and open ended questions).

We can choose the school level of the assessment from nursery school to university but also professional staff. Unfortunately, level is only expressed following US or UK standards, meaning you need to search for the correspondance in your country.

Then the section “text” is waiting for our prompt. The more precise we are, the more relevant the tool’s response will be.

It is possible to restrict the field covered by the assessment by uploading a document or indicating a web page.

More features are available in the paid versions, such as the ability to choose different types of questions, shorten or lengthen the questions, summarize a paragraph, a sentence, or a specific point. We can also customize the questions by editing them, adding resources, or highlighting certain questions.
