Voices from the Street : AI Perspectives

Welcome to our micro-trottoir on artificial intelligence.

In Valencia, we tried to gather the views of people who wanted to have their say on artificial intelligence.

Whether they are curious individuals or forward-thinking professionals, they show a variety of perspectives.

Whether it’s about industrial transformation, ethical implications or its impact on everyday life, these testimonials give an insight into the general public’s feelings and understanding of AI.

Listen to the different reactions.

Original Text : Let see. So you asked me a question, do you use chat gpt?

And what do you think about it? Do you think that it’s going to replace you in future? Will it change your work?

Absolutely. Without any doubt, it will change our work. I don’t think it’s gonna replace people.

I have my own software company. I have a background in engineering PhD and a master’s degree in electronics. So, you know, this kind of stuff is stuff I understand really, really well. Chat GPT is very, very powerful, but it still makes mistakes.

It has hallucinations. It kind of bosses you a little bit. Do you know what I mean?  And I think they will improve it and it will get better and better and better.

And it’s going to automate a lot of jobs. But it that’s also gonna create new jobs. But in the area of software, we don’t know. Is it going to replace software engineers or not?

Absolutely no idea. Some software guys are really worried about that because, they’re worried about their jobs. I think what’s gonna happen is it’s gonna make it easier for people with less ability, skill, experience to do more. But then there will be an explosion of the number of people that will be needed to do the work.

So I think like every other industrial revolution, like, the printing press, the mills… you know, industrial revolution.

Sorry. I mean, history is terrible. It’s gonna change things for sure.

Do ChatGPT or other tools would help to program? Oh yes, I already use it.

Reading, learning of the programming languages would not be anymore necessary. I already use it. But, you know, I don’t have a lot of time to sit thinking about complicated algorithms.

So I can tell: give me some code that does this. And then I read it. I’ve got enough experience to read it and go, that’s wrong. Change this. So it can come to a solution faster. But if you don’t have the skill, you can’t do that. You see what I mean?

Instead of writing from scratch.

Figuring something out that’s complicated, let’s say you need an algorithm to sort words into alphabetical order. Normally, you have to figure that out from scratch.

It would take a really, really long time. Or they would look it up on the Internet. They would go to Stack Overflow. They would go to this kind of websites, and someone else would have the solution.

Right? But now you can ask GPT, and it’ll give you a solution straight away. And you can read that code, try it, see if it’s good, change it, tweak it. Have the whole thing done in minutes. Now that’s a poor example because the reality is, that, you know, those kind of solutions are already done.

But if you imagine the solution that hasn’t been done, the speed is quite remarkable. But if you don’t read the code, understand it, and actually use it, you’re gonna produce, excuse my language, bullshit.

So we’re gonna get an explosion in the number of people working with lower abilities.

Do we need to teach artificial intelligence starting from the school?

The education system in the world is failing children. And it has been for 10, 20 years.

My son who’s 15 years old, what’s he learning? The same stuff I learned at school 20, 30 years ago. Do you know what I mean?

Like, what are they doing in China? Quantum physics, artificial intelligence, mathematics to a deeper, deeper level than us. We’re being lazy. We’re being complacent. I think the the Western world is in for a huge shock in the next 15 years.

Yeah. So we should be, but we should be teaching more. Thank you.

Original Text : – Are you using artificial intelligence? So ChatGPT, something like that? Absolutely not. Not. I don’t use ChatGPT because I don’t work.

I don’t need it. I don’t see why I have to use that. Google is the is the same for me.

– Have you heard that artificial intelligence can influence on your future profession?

– Yes.

– And what is your opinion about that?

– I’m a little bit afraid about that because it’s going too far.

I would say I’m not ready to use the to use that. I don’t need it.

And in the future when you will go to work?

I think I should learn something, but, I can’t even use Excel that is a basic thing.

I see me working with my hands. So, I don’t think about that.

I leave this thing far from me.

Original Text :

– I don’t know exactly for sure. I have a clue, but I don’t know very very much about it.

– Do you think it has any impact in your daily life?

– Not for me because I’m a little bit, old, so I don’t use much internet and all that things, and I don’t I don’t know. No. For me, no.

Original Text :

– So do you know what’s AI about?

– Yes. I know something. I don’t know very well everything about the topic, but, yes, I know this type of technology.

– And do you think it impacts your daily life?

– My daily life, at this moment, not too much, but I can say that it can help me with some  things. And, I usually use AI to correct something that I write or, I think I use it in a good way and not in a bad way, like, to try to use it to solve my problems or my work.

Original Text :

– Do you know about AI?

– Definitely.

– Do you think it impacts your life somehow?

– Especially with the job I do.

– I trade on the American stock market and obviously a lot of it is high frequency based on AI data. So yes. Definitely.

– And how could you define AI in, like, three words?

– Very intelligent, growing, and, yeah, probably dangerously to a certain extent. Right?

Key points :

I think that artificial intelligence is very good for future development, because in the end what it allows you to do is to save certain processes when it comes to establishing certain conclusions. For my studies, which in the end have been law, I think it is not well oriented, not because of anything, but because referring to the application of HTML does not guide you or does not develop what you are looking for, but I think that artificial intelligence allows certain applications or features that use certain lawyers for their development and operation.

So, I think it’s a fundamental tool and I think it’s going to be very important for the future.
